The sliding glass doors in your house may be becoming more difficult to open after a decade or so. Aluminum-framed twin glass doors are considerably more prone to this issue. As a result, many aluminum units did not have stainless steel rollers in their doors, which made the doors heavier. As a result, rollers might get stuck when exposed to damp for an extended period of time.
The sliding panel must be removed from the aperture before you can replace the rollers. In most cases, the sliding panel can only be accessed once the fixed panel has been removed. There is a simple method to find out whether your fixed panel has to be removed as well. It is necessary to remove both panels if you want to utilize a slider that is on the inner track and a fixed panel that is on the outside. The track in your home has a lip at the bottom. That lip serves as a watertight seal. Because of this, the sliding panel cannot be lifted up and over the lip. As a result, the fixed panel must be removed first, and the slider must be lifted and swung out from the outside. If you’re one of the select few who have a slider on the outer track, you don’t have to remove the fixed panel in order to remove your slider.
We presume, however, that the fixed panel must be removed before you may proceed. Here’s how it’s done: If you have a screen door, remove it. There will be two rollers at the bottom of the screen door. Lift the roller out of the track using a flat screwdriver while holding the door frame end with the other hand. Afterward, remove the screen door and put it away. Identify the door lock hardware by looking for a metal component on a track running from a fixed panel’s bottom corner to its bottom side jamb. Depending on how old your door is, you may or may not have this part. You may remove it from the track with a pry bar if you have one. Despite the fact that it seems to be a part of the track, it is securely fastened in place. 
The fixed panel against the wall jam should be visible after that component has been removed. See if you can find any screws that are keeping the jam together. It is common for them to have one in each corner, as well as one in the middle. You can keep track of these screws by removing and storing them. You should now be able to remove the fixed panel from the side jam with relative ease. You may expect it to be stuck. If so, grip the middle rail at the bottom and raise it as hard as you can. Pull the panel back down if you see it rising. Pull it out of the side jam a few more times like this. In most cases, this will loosen it sufficiently for you to remove it. If that doesn’t work, a thin screwdriver inserted between the fixed panel frame and the side jam may be used to pry the panel away from the jam while another person pulls the panel out of the jam. Grasp the fixed panel side rail and have a helper grab the other rail after you’ve freed it from the side jam. It’s time to jack the panel up onto its upper track and swing it out of its lower one. Make a copy of the screen door and remove the panel from the upper track.
As with the fixed panel, you may now try pulling the slider up and out. A handful of things must be done if the slider will not clear the bottom track. If the door won’t open, check to see if the old rollers are protruding from the bottom or if the bottom of the frame is contacting the track. The old rollers are generally the culprits. Even though the hole is 8 feet wide, the wood header that runs across the opening may have sagged just enough to make it a little too snug in the middle of it. Adjusting the rollers all the way up into the door may be necessary if this is the cause of the problem. Locate the adjustment screw by inserting a phillips screwdriver into a hole on the bottom side. As far as you can, spin the screw counterclockwise. Lift out the door after doing this on both sides. Have a helper raise one side and pull outward as you attempt to pry the frame and roller across the track if you are still unable to free yourself. One side out? Have your assistant hold it there with his or her foot while he or she raises the other side for you to pry it loose.
Almost all rollers are kept in place by the same screw that secures the frame corners together after the slider is removed. As a result, you’ll first need to remove a screw from one corner of the panel, then turn the panel over and remove a screw from the other corner. You may now remove the bottom frame of the glass using a hammer and a rubber mallet. You’ll be able to get to your rollers this way. Pay attention to the way they’re attached to the doorframe! In actuality, just one roller needs to be removed in order to match the new ones. You may use the old rollers as a guide to install the new ones when you get home.
About 80-90 percent of the rollers on the market can be found at places like Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Ace Hardware. Because of this, you should be able to discover them easily. But what if this isn’t your fortunate day, and you can’t seem to locate your rollers? You’ll have to place an order for them. Go to your local glass store and bring in the roller. There is a chance they will have them in stock if you are fortunate. The rollers may be ordered, but it will take around a week for them to arrive. Don’t freak out! Simply remove the corner screws, return the door panel to its original position, and replace the bottom frame. You may even leave the roller you removed in place. Do not snap in the bottom piece and do not screw in the inner screws when you reinstall the door. Then, from the inside of the home, raise and shut the slider. If you leave the roller out, you don’t want to pull it. As a result, the bottom track will be damaged. After releasing the pressure, shut and lock it.
Once your new rollers arrive, remove everything and replace it. Before reinstalling the door, make sure to fully extend the new rollers. The new rollers won’t get in the way when you want to put it back in place in this manner. Adjust the new rollers so that the door moves smoothly and locks properly. When the door is about an inch from shutting into the side jam, check to make sure there is an equal space at the top and bottom. The rollers may be adjusted to level out this dimension. For $50 or $60, you can consider hiring an expert to perform the work. However, in densely populated locations like Los Angeles, it is normal practice to pay workers only $100. A $20 job may be easily done for $130 if the rollers are marked up by three times that much.
